Finnair
At the turn of the millennium the Finnish airline company, Finnair, started a re-branding program with the goal was creating a new look for the whole brand. Trademark, logo, advertising, cabin interior, lounges, ticketing offices etc. got a new visual image. At the same time, the airline wanted to change the dress code for the staff. Based on corporate values, the uniforms had to reflect the brand identity: Finnish, reliable, safe, and fresh.
The requested uniform collection had to include outfits for different body types as well as for different kind of functions, allowing several options for the staff to choose from.
Traditional Finnish elegance is based on simplicity: subdued shapes and discreet cuts.
A reliable and safe uniform is easy-to-wear, wrinkle free, and light with comfortable elasticity. The crew should feel both stylish and professional in their outfits. Both, men's and women's uniform fabrics have some elastic fiber in them and the light blue fabric has a Teflon anti-stain treatment.
The light blue summer uniforms bring northern freshness to the airline's unique corporate image and the seasonal clothing and accessories give a particular expression for the uniform look.
The French "Bon Voyage" magazine listed the new Finnair uniforms as Number 5 on their 2004 "Best Airline Uniform" awards list. It was described as "the best western-style uniform." (FYI: Asian airline companies topped the list in this category.)
